Students at Ridge Mills Elementary were treated to an inspirational performance by Tom Varano, Emotion Into Art™ on Wednesday, September 18th. His presentation featured speed painting mixed with personal stories. He asked students to follow their dreams and believe in themselves. “I am trying to get a message across to students of following your heart and following your passion, living with a purpose. When I look out into the audience I am trying to reach that one person, if I can reach that one person and something sparks within them in that one moment, then I’ve done my job,” said Varano.
At one point in the presentation, he looked out in than the audience and asked students if they had a fear of being up on the stage. As the hands raised, he selected a boy named Ethan to join him on the stage to create a painting. Overcoming his fear, he painted a beautifully abstract creation. Ethan was given a “dream big” t-shirt and a print of Martin Luther King that Varano painted.
He asked the students to remember the acronym, BIG. B is for the books that you read. I is for the individuals that you hang around with and G is for the goals that you set, both academically in your class and personally outside your school.
